Hi guys
So theres this Whitesmoke thing on my computer. It seems like a search engine, but I’m not sure. I’ve heard it’s a virus, and I’m only a kid so I have no clue what I did to get it or how to get rid of it. I’ve been in the control panel, and nothing unusual came up. I’ve also ran Task manager to see if anything was running that shouldn’t, but again nothing came up. I’m getting worried because I don’t want my laptop ruined, but I have no clue what to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Google says it’s a grammar checker software, and WOT gives the site a red rating, meaning the program IS a virus, or it is full of spyware.

Here are instructions on how to remove it, if you don’t think you can properly follow them, get someone that can, or you can really mess things up.

i scanned my pc and it told i had a spyware called whitesmoke located in conduit file. do i have to delete it?

I have tried Malware Bytes and Revo Uninstaller and neither recognize the Whitesmoke program.

Hi,

I (foolishly) went to a online game site, and when I clicked “play online”, I saw it download something called “whitesmokeinstaller.exe”. I have a mac, so I didn’t think it could run or install itself, but it may have. I deleted the installer as fast as I could, but is there a way to figure out if it installed anything, or if it’s running something on my mac I don’t know about?

Any Windows files like the .exec file and all Windows bugs (virus, trojan etc.) won’t run or work on a Mac. Just delete the file and quit worrying about it.

i was scanning my computer w/ malwarebytes and I got hundreds of results, practically all of them pup.whitesmoke

what are they, should I delete them??>>
i dont want to download anything lol…. sorry im not an incredibly trusting person but thanks anyway

shouldn’t need to download anything else. I say go ahead and delete them. They have to do with the whitesmoke toolbar/program and a lot of ppl complain about comprimises to their PCs because of it. The program is supposed to detect and fix grammer mistakes as you type or search a document.

I am about to purchase it but I wanted to get a second opinion.
I just saw a good commentary on WhiteSmoke’s page; a commentary from yahoo. Is it really fronm Yahoo itself?

Trying to remove WhiteSmoke trial program because it’s not good. I get error message: “Error Launching CheckLockedWSFiles” I have tried removing the program using the Program’s Uninstall fucntion and also going to the Control Panel in Vista. Each brings up the same error message. I tried going to WhiteSmoke but they were useless. They had me download Superwin program removal software. That would not remove it either. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Michael,

To uninstall WhiteSmoke, close all MS Word and Outlook windows on your computer. Go into Start, Settings, Control Panel. Click on Add/Remove Programs. Choose WhiteSmoke from the list, and click Remove. This will uninstall the program and all its components. Then go to your C drive, open Program Files, open the WhiteSmoke folder, and delete all the files in this folder. To remove the WhiteSmoke icon from MS Word, right-click on the toolbar in MS Word, left-click on Customize, click on WhiteSmoke and choose delete.
